The Walking Dead may have ended in 2022, but AMC is investing more money than ever into further developing the Walking Dead Universe! In the time following the conclusion of the main show, we've seen Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) traverse a post-apocalyptic Manhattan, as well as the triumphant return of Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) in The Ones Who Live. And of course, there's Daryl Dixon's (Norman Reedus) adventures in France!

The Daryl Dixon show will return later this year, this time with fan-favorite character Carol Peletier (Melissa McBride) in tow. Carol is set to play a big role in the new season; AMC has subtitled the sophomore season The Book of Carol. What's more, during the show's panel at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, AMC announced that the spinoff will return for a third season, which will take place in Spain! Check out the official synopsis for season 3, per The Hollywood Reporter:

"Season three tracks Carol (Melissa McBride) and Daryl (Norman Reedus) as they continue their journey towards home and the ones they love. As they struggle to find their way back, the path takes them farther astray, leading them through distant lands with ever-changing and unfamiliar conditions as they witness the various effects of the Walker apocalypse."

The upcoming season begins filming next month in various locations across Spain, including Madrid, Galicia, Aragon, Catalonia and Valencia. Madrid, however, will be the central hub for the production.

“France made Daryl and Carol’s story into an epic poem with what we found there," AMC Chief Content Officer Scott M. Gimple said in a statement. "What’s to come in Spain may even surpass it — and we’re so damn happy to bring the audience more of the Terrific Two alongside new compelling characters, in a yet unseen, beautiful, horrific corner of their broken world.”

McBride is here to stay for season 3, and she's super excited to head to Spain. "We start shooting there in just a few weeks… such excitement looking forward!”

Might we see Rick's brother in Daryl Dixon season 3?

As soon as I heard that Daryl Dixon season 3 was taking place in Spain, one thing came to mind: Could we see Rick's brother Jeffrey? Now, if you haven't read The Walking Dead comics, you probably don't have a clue what I'm talking about. Rick's brother isn't even mentioned in the main run of comics by Robert Kirkman. Rather, he's the main character in The Alien, a spinoff story by Brian K. Vaughan. The one-shot comic tells the story of Jeffrey Grimes surviving in Spain following the outbreak of the zombie apocalypse.

The likelihood is that we probably won't see Jeffrey Grimes in Daryl Dixon season 3, but you never know. It could make for a pretty cool story arc.

Sure, let's all get excited about season 3, but there's still season 2 just around the corner. Daryl Dixon season 2, The Book of Carol, premieres September 29 on AMC.
