The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live boss teases future seasons
By Ashley Hurst
AMC's slate of Walking Dead spinoffs, set after the main show ended, have gotten off to a fantastic start. First we got Dead City, which chronicled Negan and Maggie's adventures in New York City, followed by Daryl's foray across post-apocalyptic France in Daryl Dixon. And now, The Ones Who Live marks the return of beloved duo Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira).
The Ones Who Live has been an enormous success so far. The series sees Rick and Michonne attempt to escape the grasp of the all-powerful Civic Republic and return to their lives in Alexandria, but one thing after another keeps holding them back. With only one more episode to go, it feels like there's too much going on to tie up all the loose ends, which has fans wondering whether we'll get more seasons. Of course, this series initially started off as a trilogy of movies, so there's certainly plenty more story to cover.
Thanfully, co-showrunner Scott Gimple is happy to keep fueling the rumors. As the mind behind the entire Walking Dead Universe, whatever he says, we take seriously. “Anything is possible — even if Rick dies in the last episode, anything is possible… we’re focused on this one right now," he told Deadline a few months back. "But this one came together in a really amazing way, where there were all sorts of plans. And then the world changed and we altered those plans.”
His opinion hasn't changed, either. More recently, when asked about a potential season 2 of The Ones Who Live by The Los Angeles Times, Gimple answered “anything can happen." Whether we get a season 2 remains to be seen, but Gimple has previously expressed his interest in one day converging all the spinoffs, essentially creating season 12 of The Walking Dead. We can dream.
The season finale of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live airs Sunday, March 31 on AMC.
