Spooky season may be fast approaching, but if Universal Pictures has its way it'll last all the way into January. Today, the first official teaser for Wolf Man was unveiled. If this is the first you're hearing about it...well, it's exactly what it sounds like. This is Universal and Blumhouse's take on the classic 1941 Universal monster flick, about a werewolf who howls at the moon, chomps up unfortunates who stray into his path, and otherwise does the things you'd expect a werewolf to do.

In this latest version of the Wolf Man, it seems like he'll be dealing with an awful lot of emotional turmoil as well. In the teaser, which you can watch above, we see the first terrifying hints of the Wolf Man's transformation, and how his family reacts to having a lycanthrope in their midst.

There are a few other fun things in there, like some scary set pieces where a wolfy arm smashes through a windshield, and...praying mantises? Don't ask me what praying mantises have to do with werewolves, but you'll get to see them both in this movie! Which is the worse predator, I ask you? Watch and find out!

This isn't Universal's first crack at reviving the Wolf Man property. Back in 2010 the studio released another Wolf Man movie starring Benicio Del Toro, but it wasn't especially well received critically and was considered a failure at the box office. According to The A.V. Club, Universal was then trying to get a reboot off the ground starring Ryan Gosling, but that ended up stalling out and transforming into the version of the film we're getting next year. Hopefully this one will do better, especially with a studio like Blumhouse attached.

Wolf Man is directed by Leigh Whannell (The Invisible Man), and stars Christopher Abbot, Julia Garner, Matilda Firth, and Sam Jaegar. It releases in theaters on January 17, 2024.
