Next week, the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, a prequel series set thousands of years before The Lord of the Rings story most of us know, will premiere on Prime Video. Not to be undone, Warner Bros. Discovery is readying its own Lord of the Rings prequel thing: The War of the Rohirrim, a movie set some 200 years before Frodo went on his journey to Mount Doom.

In this movie, we'll check in on Rohan during the reign of Helm Hammerhand, voiced by none other than Succession's Brian Cox. Wulf (Luke Pasqualino), the leader of the Dunlendings, approaches Rohan with an offer of an alliance, but really he's just trying to climb the ladder and amass power. War breaks out, and Helm Hammerhand and his daughter Hèra (Gaia Wise) must do what they can to win it.

WBD just released a trailer. Watch below!

The War of the Rohirrim is narrated by Miranda Otto, who played Rohan shieldmaiden Éowyn in Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings movies, which the trailer is quick to remind us of. Remember those movies you liked that time? Then you'll like this one! See it see it see it!

I just might; it looks neat enough, and director Kenji Kamiyama comes recommended. He started his career as a background artist on classic anime movies like Akira and Kiki's Delivery Service before directing on shows like Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex and Blade Runner: Black Lotus. There have been animated moves set in Middle-earth before, and this looks like it could be a good one.

The War of the Rohirrim is scheduled to come out in theaters on December 13, 2024. The second season of The Rings of Power premieres on Prime Video next Thursday, August 29, so 2024 is about to have all the Middle-earth it can handle.
