The fourth season of The Boys has wrapped up on Amazon Prime Video. It's been a curious season. Despite the satire being as sharp and pointed as ever, there's been a lot more backlash than usual, with user ratings on sites like Rotten Tomatoes way down from season 3. On the other hand, there are way more user ratings than there were before, and viewership is up significantly. Maybe as the audience grows, so do the number of people who have problems?

Anyway, the season 4 finale was a rip-roaring good time, and I'm excited to see how the series wraps up in season 5. Unfortunately, we won't get to watch it for a while, at least according to star Karl Urban. "That’s all [The Boys] for now, folks," he wrote on his Instagram. "See you in... 2 years (wish it was sooner) for the final season on Prime Video."

Although The Boys managed to get its first and second seasons out within a year of each other, the other seasons have come out after two-year breaks, which has become standard for tentpole shows like this. I wish we got to watch the show wrap up sooner, but hopefully the gap gives the cast and crew the time they need to make sure the final episodes are as good as possible.

The Boys showrunner thinks Karl Urban should get an Emmy

Maybe they'll be so good that Urban, who plays the superhero-hating Billy Butcher, will finally get some Emmy recognition. Technically, that could still happen for his work in season 4, although we won't know until the 2025 Emmy nominations are announced next year. Showrunner Erik Kripke, at any rate, would love to see it. He praised Urban's performance during an emotional scene from the finale, where Butcher was on the edge of death and asked Hughie (Jack Quaid) to honor his final, NSFW wish:

Kripke has also made his case that Antony Starr, who plays sociopathic superhero Homelander, should get an Emmy for his work in season 4, particularly the episode "Wisdom of the Ages." Why not shoot for the moon?
