The second season of HBO's Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon returns on Sunday, June 16. If history is any guide, the premiere will air at 8:00 p.m. EST. You'll also be able to stream new episodes of House of the Dragon on Max, the streaming service operated by Warner Bros. Discovery.

The second season of House of the Dragon will have eight episodes. That's down from 10 episodes in the first season, but is still a decent amount.

Part of the reason for the smaller number of episodes may be because each one costs quite a bit more. At the end of House of the Dragon season 1, Rhaenyra Targaryen and her half-brother Aegon were on the edge of engaging in all-out war over the Iron Throne. That war will break open in season 2, which means lots of expensive scenes where people fly around on dragons flash-frying their enemies. There may be slightly fewer episodes, but what we get could well be spectacular.

When does House of the Dragon season 2 return?

House of the Dragon season 2 will run for two months, from June 16 through August 4. It should be a hot dragon summer. I'm so sorry.

Here is the full schedule of episodes:

  • Episode 201: June 16
  • Episode 202: June 23
  • Episode 203: June 30
  • Episode 204: July 07
  • Episode 205: July 14
  • Episode 206: July 21
  • Episode 207: July 28
  • Episode 208: August 04

HBO hasn't formally renewed the show for a third season yet, so far as we know. The first season was a big hit, so hopefully they take that step sooner rather than later. House of the Dragon is based on select chapters from George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood. It'll probably run for around four seasons before everything wraps up. The sooner they renew the show, they sooner they can start work on future seasons, and the less time fans will have to wait between new episodes. Then everyone's happy.

Well, fans may not be happy when they see some of the horrific things the show has in store for us in season 2. But at least they'll be satisfied.
