Dune: Part Two opens in movie theaters on March 1. There's a ton of hype for this film. The first Dune movie, which adapted the first half of Frank Herbert's seminal 1965 sci-fi novel, was a big hit when it came out in 2021, even though it was released simultaneously on Max (this was during the peak of the pandemic) and it told a story considered difficult even by fans. Dune is a cerebral, slow-moving sort of sci-fi book, but director Denis Villenueve and a gallery of big-name stars made it digestible for a mass audience. Dune: Part Two will adapt the rest of the book, which has a lot more action, so it stands to do even better than the first movie.

Furthermore, critics who have already seen the movie have been rapturous on social media, hailing Dune: Part Two as the "definitive sci-fi epic of a generation." The hype is reaching a fever pitch.

But that's only their social media impressions. Critics haven't dropped their full reviews yet. But they will very soon:

Reviews for Dune: Part Two come out on Wednesday, February 21

The first reviews for Dune: Part Two release on Wednesday, February 21 at 9:00 am PST, 12:00 pm EST. So this next Wednesday morning, we'll all know what the critics think of Dune: Part Two. And a week-and-a-half later, we'll all get to see it for ourselves.

If the social media impressions are any indication, I expect the reviews to be extremely positive. I expect the box office returns to be strong, too. The first Dune movie made nearly $400 million on a budget of $165 million, which is very solid, especially for a story that hasn't been in theaters for many years. Since Dune: Part Two is a sequel, and since it'll probably be more of a roller coaster thrill ride than the first film, and since it will only be in theaters and not immediatley on Max, it should have no trouble taking in more money than its predecessor.

There's also a lot of buzz around the cast, especially young stars like Timothée Chalamet, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, Zendaya and now Anya Taylor-Joy. That's a lot of young Hollywood sparkle in one place. Zendaya recently went viral for the robot look she wore to the film's London premiere:
