The Walking Dead may have ended after 11 seasons back in 2022, but the franchise is very much being kept alive through a slate of exciting spinoff projects. There's Dead City, which follows unlikely duo Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan); and Daryl Dixon, which follows Daryl (Norman Reedus) as he travels through France.

The next spinoff, The Ones Who Live, is perhaps the most exciting of all, because it features the return of fan-favorite survivors Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Dana Gurira). Rick Grimes was last seen being carried away, barely alive, in a Civic Republic helicopter back in season 9. Meanwhile, Michonne's last appearance came in season 10, when she left the group to go searching for Rick after learning that he may still be alive.

Despite premiering next month, AMC has yet to drop a full trailer for The Ones Who Live; the plot of the series is still shrouded in mystery. We know that it will focus heavily on the Civic Republic, and that Jadis (Polyanna McIntosh) will be involved. But beyond that, it's all very puzzling. Producer Scott M. Gimple has previously described the series as “a love story that has been changed by a changed world.”

The marketing department is not helping much to explain things. Lately all we've been getting is extremely cryptic 3-second shorts. First, we got a glimpse of someone using a key:

And a day later, we got a very similar teaser, but this time it's a close-up shot of someone's boots. They definitely belong to a certain Rick Grimes:

AMC is putting a lot into this six-episode series. According to a report from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority, the series has a budget of approximately $13.7 million per episode. For comparison, Dead City had an estimated budget of $12 million per episode.

The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live premieres February 25 on AMC and AMC+.
