For 10 weeks, FX has been airing new episodes of Shōgun, a historical fiction series based on author James Clavell's book of the same name. Set in feudal Japan, it Shōgun is about a power struggle for control of the island, fought between Lord Yoshi Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) and his rivals. Toranaga has the help of translator Toda Mariko (Anna Sawai) and an Englishman named John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), who sailed to Japan without any real understanding of its culture. By the end of the story, that's changed.
New episodes of Shōgun have aired every Tuesday night on FX. However, new episodes have also dropped at midnight the day before on the streaming service Hulu, with which FX has long had a partnership. You can stream all 10 episodes of Shōgun on Hulu right now, including the series finale, "A Dream of a Dream."
And this does look like the series finale. Although Clavell did write several other novels set in Asia, Shōgun tells a discrete story with a beginning, middle and end, and the TV show has adapted that story in its entirety. So if you're hoping for Shōgun season 2, you're out of luck.
However, after the explosive popularity of the show, it wouldn't be surprising to hear that FX may follow it up with an adaptation of one of Clavell's other novels, which are each set in different time periods and feature new sets of characters. So while the series may continue in a way, this is the last we'll see of Toranaga and the Anjin.
