Invincible is back for the second half of its second season. We have four more episodes to enjoy between now and April 4. No, it's not enough, but if it's any consolation, these episodes are absolute bangers. Things get nuts.

Fans saw that in the first episode out of the gate, season 2 Episode 5, "This Must Come As A Shock." The episode followed up on the big cliffhanger from the previous episode, "It's Been A While," involving Mark Grayson helping to clean up the mess the Viltrumites made when they attacked his father Omni-Man on the planet Thraxa. Mark left the planet partway through the episode, taking his new half-brother with him. The mother, Andressa, was very near death — her species doesn't live long — and thought her more long-lived son would have a better life elsewhere.

Meanwhile, back on Earth, the Guardians of the Globe were called upon to go into outer space and stop a ship full of dangerous Sequids from Mars from reaching the planet. A few of the Guardians were left behind to monitor things at home, including Rex Splode, Dupli-Kate and Shrinking Ray. They have to deal with a problem too when the villainous Lizard League breaks into a government base.

And here's where things got insane. The Lizard League are supposed to be a bunch of joke villains; no one really takes them seriously. But under their new management, they've gotten a lot more serious. And they seemingly manage to kill two of the Guardians of the Globe in absolutely sickening ways. One of them kills all of Dupli-Kate's clones before tearing her body apart. This same guy swallows Shrinking Ray when she's in her miniature state. She expands inside his throat, and for a second it looks like that will do him in, but in the most horrifying moment of the episode, he steels himself, concentrates, and appears to crush her within his body.

Invincible is very creative when it comes to these kinds of scenes. Now, there are superheroes, so it's possible they could somehow survive these attacks — Rex Splode seemed to live through the fight, despite sustaining incredibly severe wounds — but for the moment, it looks like Dupli-Kate and Shrinking Ray are dead.

We won't know for sure until the next episode, although I'll note the trailer for Invincible season 2 part 2 included the characters gathered for a funeral. Could it be for either Dupli-Kate or Shrinking Ray, or both?
