The cast and crew of House of the Dragon is neck deep into the filming of season 3, which will continue the story of Rhaenyra Targaryen, Jacaerys Velaryon, and the rest of the dragon-rider war-mongers currently putting the Seven Kingdoms through hell. We've been keeping tabs on how shooting is going, and we're back today with some new reports.
The cast and crew have been active lately in Wales, where cast members like Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen) have shown up. There's still a lot of activity in Wales, like this big honking rock formation the team has built in the middle of a road in the village of Llanberis:

The show has spent a lot of time filming scenes in Dinorwig Quarry in Wales, where they've shipped in lots of ye oldey props:

In season 2, Dinorwig Quarry stood in for the Vale and the castle of Harrenhal, where Daemon spent a lot of time. It makes sense that Smith would return to the area. I'm also not surprised to hear Wake the Dragon say that Phoebe Campbell, who plays Rhaena Targaryen, has been on site in Dinorwig Quarry. Rhaena ended season 2 by stumbling across a wild dragon in the Vale, so season 3 will naturally pick up her story.
One of the more interesting reports comes from Redanian Intelligence, which says that the crew used around 38,000 liters of water (over 10,000 gallons) to similar rain for a scene set in Dinorwig Quarry. Is this scene set at Harrenhal? In the Vale? Somewher else? It could be wherever it rains:
According to locals, House of the Dragon S3 filmed a rain scene at Dinorwig Quarry on Thursday for which 38000 liters of water was carried up the quarry for simulated rain.

Also, more than 300 cast and crew were involved in the filming, and lots of horses. pic.twitter.com/nDwpdsZ5LD
Moving on, actor Sarah Woodward posted a picture of herself in costume as Sabitha Frey, the lady of the Twins; Rhaenyra's son Jace visited her and her husband in season 2 forge an alliance between the Freys and the Blacks, the faction of Targaryens loyal to his mother. We've known for a minute that Sabitha Frey would be coming back, and now there's proof:

The crew is moving all over Wales. House the Dragons reports that they're filming scenes today in the northern village of Capel Curig. As for what scene they're shooting, House the Dragons only knows that there's a soldier in armor involved, which narrows it down not at all.
Finally, a fun fact for the road: every new season of House of the Dragon is given a different code name while in production. The first and second seasons were codenamed Red Gun and Red Gun 2. The third is going a different direction, at least according to RI:
Fun fact:

Filming on House of the Dragon season 3 has been going on for a while and has a while yet to go. Expect new episodes sometime in 2026, likely in the back half. Early next year, HBO will air a new Game of Thrones prequel series called A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which will be a whole different kettle of fish.
