Every once in a while, I come across a TV show so good I can't believe it isn't the biggest thing in the world. It happened with Warrior, Cinemax's thrilling martial arts drama that was unjustly cancelled after three seasons. It happened with The Wheel of Time, Prime Video's high fantasy epic unjustly cancelled after three seasons. And it happened with Interview With The Vampire, AMC's unreasonably enjoyable vampire show that just started work on its third season...should I be worried?
I don't think so, since Interview With The Vampire is considerably cheaper to make than either of those other shows and because it seems gung-ho on creating a cinematic universe based on the works of Anne Rice; another show set in a the same world, Mayfair Witches, is already on the air, and another called The Talamasca: The Secret Order is on the way.
There's something special about the original, though. Interview With The Vampire adapts Rice's classic novel of the same name, and it does it with style to spare. Sam Reid is a scene stealer as the charismatic, amoral vampire Lestat, so I'm very much in support of him getting to hold down the third season of the show, which will adapt Rice's novel The Vampire Lestat. We'll learn a lot about how Lestat came to be who he is; I expect flashbacks. Meanwhile, in the present, Lestat puts together a band and becomes a rock star who sings about vampire secrets, mightily ticking off other members of the undead community. It's a perfect story for him.
The show's official X account just tweeted that production had officially begun. It's too late for my tastes — the second season of the show aired its finale about a year ago — but if the third season turns out as good as I'm hoping, I'm willing to wait.

Showrunner Rolin Jones has described season 3 as a "pop masterpiece," with original songs written just for the occasion. Remember, Lestat's a rock star now, and rock stars sing rock songs. We've already caught the barest glimpse of Sam Reid rehearing one...

...and AMC released a cut of one song right after season 2 wrapped up; you can hear it in the video at the top of this post.
Making the third season of your cult hit TV show and turning it into a muscial/rock opera is a big risk, and it could be spectacularly badly, but based on the first two seasons, I'm inclined to believe it'll be magnificent.
The third season of Interview With The Vampire will premiere on AMC sometime in 2026; there's no firm date set as of yet. To tide fans over, The Talamasca: The Secret Order will premiere sometime this fall.
