Robert Kirkman returns to Invincible comics with Battle Beast spinoff!

Invincible is a hot property nowadays. The main comic book run may have concluded, but Robert Kirkman's superhero universe is more popular ever thanks to Prime Video's animated series, which will air its third season in 2025. Also next year, Kirkman has announced that he's returning to the comics with a 'Battle Beast' spinoff!
You may remember Battle Beast as the huge cat-like alien who beat the absolute tar out of Mark in the first season of Prime Video's Invincible show, where he was voiced by Michael Dorn. The upcoming Battle Beast spinoff comes from the original creative team. Kirkman is writing and co-creator Ryan Ottley returns to illustrate. The series will help bring clarity to Battle Beast's story during some gaps where he didn't appear in the original series. Of course, Battle Beast's main quest is to find an opponent worthy of taking him down and giving him a worthy death.
“What can I say? I just can’t get enough of the Invincible Universe!” Robert Kirkman said in a statement, per IGN. “Moving from the comic series directly to the animated series, I haven’t really had a break. That said, while adapting the series to animation, I’ve been itching to do something new! Longtime fans will know there’s a massive gap in Battle Beast’s appearances in the series between Invincible issue 19 and issue 55. There’s a lot of story to tell and I couldn’t be more thrilled to have Battle Beast co-creator Ryan Ottley on board to tell it with me!”
Ryan Ottley is also really enthused to be back working on an Invincible project after all these years. "I'm really happy to be back at Image Comics and Skybound, and can't wait for you to see the story we are fleshing out in this series! I haven't had this much fun since Invincible!” he said.
Invincible Universe: Battle Beast will release in April 2025, aligned with Invincible season 3. Speaking of which, Prime Video recently debuted the first trailer for season 3, which sees Mark Grayson face-off with Global Defense Agency director Cecil Stedman.
Invincible season 3 arrives for its first three episodes on February 6, with subsequent installments landing weekly. It's unclear if Battle Beast will appear in these new episodes, but the last time we saw him he was completely unharmed, so it's certainly possible.
