Prime Video's superhero series Invincible gets bigger, better, bloodier and more epic with each passing season, and the show is nowhere near the climax of the comics yet. Last season, Mark Grayson had his hardest time yet, facing off against multiverse-hopping archenemy Angstrom Levy, and of course, the formidable Viltrumite titan Conquest.

Looking ahead to season 4, everything gets dialed up even further. The Viltrumite war begins to boil over with the introduction of leader Thragg. There's also an all-new story arc featuring Damien Darkblood, who appears to be setting up some sort of ritual to capture Invincible. As always, there's going to be a lot of moving pieces.

Speaking about the upcoming season, creator Robert Kirkman has issued a warning to fans, saying they should be "worried" for Mark and his little brother Oliver, whose superpowers grew throughout season 3. "But the interesting note over the course of Season 3 is that Oliver says very harsh things that make you worry," Kirkman told Deadline. "Then, by the end of the season, the completion of Mark’s arc is that he’s more aligned with Oliver than he was before. So, by the end of this season, you should be worried for where Mark is headed in Season 4 and beyond."

In season 3, Oliver surprised Mark by killing some of the villains they faced rather than just capturing them and turning them over to the authorities, reasoning that they had hurt people so it wasn't wrong to end their lives. It's a brutal point of view that echoes the one espoused by their father Omni-Man. Mark has pushed against that, but as things get more difficult for him and for the people of Earth, he might take that perspective on board.

After the enormous battle against Conquest in the season 3 finale, Kirkman says the stakes of the show will only get more and more serious as we head into season 4 (and beyond):

"We’re trying to make the show an escalating show. So that, every season, in some sense, tops the season before it. It may top emotionally or physically. We’re not going to be able to stage bigger and bigger battles every season until the show becomes impossible to produce. But we are planning aspects that will elevate every season so that when you watch the show, you get a sense of growth. And you get a sense of an intensifying stakes that will constantly be pushing down on the characters.""

How The Boys has allowed Invincible to be itself

In addition, Kirkman explained how Prime Video's other superhero series, The Boys, allows Invincible to pursue brutal, visceral storytelling without worrying about whether it'll be be too much for viewers. The Boys has paved the way:

"Content-wise, I feel fairly confident that we’re OK on Prime Video because we get to hide behind the trailblazing of The Boys as they keep pushing the envelope every season. And so, I get to watch that show and go, “We can do anything.” For Invincible, as long as there’s an emotional punch and a narrative reason for it to exist, I think anything goes. I don’t really think of the violence as are we going too far in and of the violence itself? I’m thinking, is this violence resulting in the correct emotions we’re trying to elicit from the audience?"

Invincible season 4 is estimated to release in early 2026 on Prime Video. It's still some time away, folks!
