Rosamund Pike fantasy film surges on streaming after The Wheel of Time cancelation

Soon after Prime Video cancelled The Wheel of Time, a forgotten fantasy film starring Rosamund Pike spiked on streaming.

Over the course of its three seasons, Prime Video's The Wheel of Time grew into one of the finest fantasy shows on television. Of the gluttony of medieval fantasy shows that were released on the back of Game of Thrones, The Wheel of Time felt like the most worthy successor, and it had so much more story to tell before Prime Video decided to part ways with it.

The fandom has been very vocal about the show's premature cancellation, and rightly so. A petition to rescue the show has amassed nearly 200,000 signatures and fans have gone so far as to purchase billboards in Times Square. The hope is to either get Amazon to change its mind or to convince another streamer like Apple TV+ to pick the show up. The Wheel of Time isn't going down quietly, that's for sure.

As in to rub salt in the wounds, shortly after axing The Wheel of Time, Prime Video went ahead and green-lit a live-action adaptation of Lauren Roberts' popular fantasy-romance books Powerless. I wish Powerless the best — I've read it, and it's pretty good — but the timing of the reveal could've been better.

Rosamund Pike's Wrath of the Titans surges on streaming!

One interesting thing to come out of the cancellation, whether coincidence or not, is the surprise resurgence of 2012 Greek mythology epic movie Wrath of the Titans, a sequel to 2010's Clash of the Titans.

Wrath of the Titans was given a hard time from critics back when it released; look no further than its meager 27% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite its all-star cast, including Sam Worthington (Perseus), Liam Neeson (Zeus), Bill Nighy (Hephaestus), Ralph Fiennes (Hades), and of course, Rosamund Pike (Andromeda), the film was critically panned for its messy plot, weak scripts, and over-reliance on CGI.

Even so, over a decade later, audiences are still finding the movie. The film has recently flew up the charts on Netflix, according to Collider. My working theory is that it shows up at the top of search results when viewers are searching for Titan, the new documentary film about the OceanGate disaster. It's free marketing. But we're also free to believe that people are already missing seeing Rosamund Pike in period garb.

If you're going to watch Wrath of the Titans, you'll need to act fast. The movie officially leaves Netflix on June 28. As for The Wheel of Time, fans continue to fight to find the show a new home.
