They're all unknown young actors, as expected, and their names aren't being released yet.

HBO is working on a TV series based on the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling, with plans to adapt roughly one book per season. We've heard a lot about who might play who, but so far nothing solid on the three most important characters in the series: boy wizard Harry Potter, and his two best friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger.

And we still haven't heard anything solid, but Hollywood gossip monger Daniel Richtman has revealed on his Patreon that, according to what he's heard, three kids have been found to play these three crucial roles. As expected, they're young, unknown actors. Richtman couldn't get their names.

Richtman trades in Hollywood rumors and secrets, but we should caution that without confirmation, this rumor is just that: a rumor. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if HBO had found its Golden Trio by this point. The search for actors to play Harry, Ron and Hermione began in 2024, with HBO receiving tens of thousands of tapes, sorting through around 1000 per day. They were specifically looking for kids aged 9-11 residing in the UK or Ireland. That process has been going on for several months, so it makes sense that they might have hit paydirt by now.

In the Harry Potter movies, Harry, Ron and Hermione were played by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson respectively. Those movies changed their lives and launched their careers. Whoever gets these roles now could have a similar experience, assuming there's as much appetite for a Harry Potter show today as there was for Harry Potter movies back in the early 2000s, when the book series was still coming out and near the height of its popularity.

We'll find out when this new Harry Potter series premieres. Some folk are hoping for a 2026 premiere date, but considering that they're still putting together the cast, I think sometime in 2027 is more likely.
