Sam Heughan mulls what to do after Outlander: "It's been a huge part of my life"
By Dan Selcke
Outlander fans have one-and-a-half seasons of their favorite show left before it ends forever. The second half of season 7 premieres next month, while the eighth and final season will be along sometime after that.
With the series having been on for over a decade at this point, it's surreal to think about it ending, but the cast and crew have indeed finished shooting the final season, as star Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) said on a new episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast:
"We shot our final episode – eight seasons, 101 episodes, 11 years, and I go back to work on Monday. We have to do a bunch of pickups. So, yeah, it's, it's been a rollercoaster. We're still a long way off."
By "pickups," Heughan means he and some of the other actors will go back to reshoot some scenes that need touch-ups. But mostly, the show is wrapped, and it sounds like Heughan is at a bit of a loss as to what do do next. "It's been a huge part of my life," he said during a visit to the show Today. "If you guys have got a spare seat..."
Heughan has gathered enough of a fan base thanks to his role as Jamie that we imagine he can do pretty much whatever he wants after Outlander; his series Men In Kilts, which is basically just him and Outlander costar Graham McTavish traveling around Scotland on the studio's dime while people record them, has been a hit. And if people will watch him visit historical landmarks, they'll watch him do anything. I think he'll be okay.
As for Outlander fans, they have some withdrawals ahead of them. But Starz isn't leaving them high and dry; the network is readying a prequel series called Outlander: Blood Of My Blood set to air its first season sometime after Outlander season part 2 but before Outlander season 8. that show will follow the parents of both Jamie and his wife Claire Fraser, keeping the time-bending romance alive in another form.
But that'll come later. For now, the second half of Outlander season 7 will premiere on Starz on Friday, November 22.
