This summer, director James Gunn will reboot the DC Cinematic Universe with a new movie titled, simply, Superman. American actor James Corenswet will step into the shoes of the Man of Steel, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel veteran Rachel Brosnahan will be intrepid Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult will go bald to play villain Lex Luthor. There's a Godzilla, other DC heroes, and a super-strong dog with a cape. The first trailer for the movie was jam-packed.
Now, DC Studios has put out a new TV spot, which you can watch above. While it's mostly footage we've already seen before, there's at least one new money shot in there: towards the end of the trailer, at the 0:26 mark, Superman swoops and serves through an icy landscape. We see a full clear look at his face as he rockets towards the camera, probably the best look we've gotten at David Corenswet in action as Superman so far.
It's an exciting shot pumping with adrenaline, which looks to be what Gunn is going for with this film: he wants it to be bright, bold and colorful. That's a contrast to the Superman movies helmed by Zach Snyder in the 2010s, back with he was played by Henry Cavill. Those movies were heavier, darker and grimmer. Do we need a new Superman series so soon after the last one puttered out? If Gunn is going to take things in a different direction, I feel better about it.
The new Superman movie will hit theaters on July 11. I mentioned that there were other DC heroes featured in the film. They include Greed Lantern (Nathan Fillion), Hawgirl (Isabela Merced) and Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, Superman's cousin. She'll be played by House of the Dragon veteran Milly Alcock, who will go on to have her own solo movie, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, scheduled to come out on June 26, 2026.
