When a TV series becomes as popular as Apple TV's Severance, there's always going to be talk about potential spinoff projects. The psychological sci-fi thriller from Dan Erickson, with most episodes directed by Ben Stiller, is easily the standout series on Apple's catalog. After a brilliant debut season, the series skyrocketed in popularity during its sophomore outing earlier this year.

With Severance already being renewed for a third installment, it's clear that everyone at AppleTV+ is keen to invest in it further. And yes, that means spinoffs. The 'Severance Universe' is well underway, folks.

Speaking to Variety, Ben Stiller weighed in on the possibility of spinoff projects, confirming that discussions have already been held: “There are two specific ideas — that I won’t tell you — that we’ve talked about internally as possible spinoff ideas.”

While he won't spill any details, Severance has myriad potential for spinoff projects. Fans would love to see the origins of Lumon Industries, which could give them a look at the early days of cultish leader Kier Eagan. That certainly feels like the obvious choice for a spinoff. Or we could get a series that centers another of the severed departments outside of Macrodata Refinement.

In the same interview, star Adam Scott (who plays protagonist Mark Scout) shared that he'd love to see Severance expand into other mediums. He thinks it'd “be great to have a ‘Severance’ video game," explaining that the show "lends itself to one.”

Given that Apple already develops video games through its service Apple Arcade, a tie-in mobile game makes a lot of sense. I mean, who wouldn't want to play Macrodata Refinement simulator on the bus?

Adam Scott discusses his life-changing role on Severance

Adam Scott has been in plenty of successful films and shows over the years, including Parks and Recreation and The Good Place. But his role in Severance has really catapulted his fame to new heights. “Whatever recognizability I’ve had over the years was a steady climb, so I’m used to a certain amount of getting stopped by people,” he said. "But this is new."

"It’s certainly different walking down the street. Every 10 steps, someone has to talk about the show. People are yelling at me from their cars. And in a bakery, there was a cookie with my face on it. Ever since I read the script, I knew this is what I’ve been working toward this whole time. For 25 years, I had been marching my way through the sludge to get to a place where maybe I could get a role like this. It feels like a culmination for me."

The writers’ room for Severance season 3 is currently working away in Los Angeles. Of course, Stiller is a regular attendee. With Scott a producer on the series, he's also in the mix. Although we don't know exactly when season 3 will premiere, Stiller has said he hopes to get it out "sooner" this time; fans had to wait nearly three years between the first and second seasons, so let's hope he's right.
