The time has come to dive into the list of 2025 Emmy Nominations, where, as luck would have it, some of the most nominated shows are from the science fiction and fantasy genres. What may be more surprising is that HBO has beaten Netflix for the most Emmy Nominations, with a total of 142, thanks to hit shows such as The White Lotus, The Penguin and The Last of Us. That's the most nominations the network has ever received.

Speaking of The Last of Us, it joins the ranks of most nominated shows alongside Severance (Apple TV+), Black Mirror (Netflix), Andor (Disney+), What We Do In The Shadows (FX), and The Boys (Prime Video). Severance, The Penguin, The Last of Us, Andor and Black Mirror are amongst the most-nominated shows.

Tell me, truthfully, are we really that surprised? Let's get into the details, shall we?

Severance is topping the list (rightfully so) with the most Emmy nominations at 27, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Britt Lower), Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Adam Scott), Outstanding Supporting Actor (Tramell Tillman), Outstanding Supporting Actress (Patricia Arquette), and Outstanding Writing.

Next up is The Penguin with 24 nominations, including for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie (Colin Farrell), Outstanding Lead Actress (Cristin Milioti) and Outstanding Supporting Actress (Deirdre O’Connell).

Look out, because Star Wars: Andor is next with 14 nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing, Outstanding Directing, and Outstanding Guest Actor (Forest Whitaker).

Last but not least, Black Mirror has been nominated for 10 awards, including Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, Lead Actress in a Limited Series (Rashida Jones), and Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series or TV Movie.

Looking at the nominations and all television shows considered for Emmys, it's not the least bit surprising to see sci-fi and fantasy well-represented. These genres are at the top of their game, consistently attracting viewers towards groundbreaking, compelling, inventive stories that will stand the test of time.

We wish all the nominees the best of luck and look forward to learning who will be taking home the coveted trophies. Mark your calendars to find out who will win the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, broadcast live on CBS on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. EST.

In the meantime, we would love to know who you think will win, who will lose, who was snubbed, and why.
