HBO is filming the third season of House of the Dragon as we speak. Season 2 ended with the Seven Kingdoms in the midst of a civil war, with some huge clashes right around the corner. Season 3 will kick off with the Battle of the Gullet, a battle fought on sea between Corlys Velaryon's fleet and a pirate fleet captained by Sharako Lohar. And if you've read George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood, you know that some winged warriors might also show up...

The cast and crew of House of the Dragon have been talking up the Battle of the Gullet as something very special. Abubakar Salim, who plays Corlys' illegitimate son Alyn of Hull, will be heavily involved. As Salim put it on Twitter/X, "fighting is tough."

We're also getting a lot of behind-the-scenes images from UnBoxPHD, who's always on top of these things. HBO has built multiple ship sets for the Battle of the Gullet:

The Battle of the Gullet will be fought in the waters near Dragonstone and Driftmark. Of course, we'll be spending time in the city of King's Landing, where King Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) sits the Iron Throne...or did, until he fled the city in the season 2 finale in fear of his power-hungry brother Aemond (Ewan Mitchell). Still, Aegon's Green faction will still control the city when the new season begins. You can see their banners hanging off the Red Keep in the image below:

This looks like it's the Godswood in the Red Keep:

We'll also be visiting new locations in season 3, including the town of Tumbleton, which will likely be the set of another major action set piece, this one closer to the end of the season. UnBoxPHD has a new image of the Tumbleton set going up:

We've heard that HBO will be filming the third season of House of the Dragon from March to October, which is a long time. Most of the images above were taken at Warner Bros. Discovery's studios in Leavesden, England, but the show will be doing some location shooting, as well. According to House the Dragons, cameras will roll in Surray in September.

So when will we actually see new episodes? Hopefully they'll air sometime in 2026; it seems like HBO will have enough time to make that happen. However, with the news that HBO ius delaying its new Game of Thrones prequel show A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms to early 2026, I fear that House of the Dragon season 2 may get pushed back...but I hope not. We'll keep our ears to the ground for more.
