One Last Adventure: The Making of Stranger Things 5 is officially the main topic of discussion coming out of the Stranger Things finale and the rumors of a secret ninth episode. Now, some eagle-eyed fans have spotted an outline that they believe suggests Eleven is actually alive at the end of the Netflix series.
In one of the clips from One Last Adventure, at the 1-hour-18-minute mark, there's a white board in the writers' room with an outline of events in the finale. It's obvious that it's from an earlier outline because the finale plays out a little bit differently than this version.
In this version, which you can see in the tweet below, Kali (Linnea Berthelsen) is shot, Hopper (David Harbour) "tends" to Kali, and then they have a "heart-to-heart," and a "new plan" forms. As you can see in the outline, Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) has already left the Hawkins Lab before the military arrives.
HOLY SHIT!! GUYS THEY COMPLETELY CHANGED THE ENDING TO MAKE IT MORE AMBIGUOUS. Hopper knows about El's fakeout and is on it. Kay and Akers were supposed to kill each other. Hopper learns about the new plan from Kali. It explains his acting on the bench. Wtf this is SO MUCH better pic.twitter.com/Cit6ZiV8OD

The thinking is that this version reveals Hopper knew about Eleven's plan with Kali. He knew that she wasn't going to stay behind. They were going to pull a fast one on everyone to end this cycle once and for all.
This outline also suggested that Dr. Kay (Linda Hamilton) and Lt. Akers (Alex Breaux) would kill each other, potentially with Kali creating an illusion of sorts. That likely would have meant that no one would have been waiting for Hopper and the gang when they came back from the Abyss and the Upside Down.

The Stranger Things finale outline is another small clue that Eleven is alive
We saw these scenes play out very differently in the actual finale, but the kernel of hope is all fans needed to know that Eleven, Kali, and Hopper were going to have some secret plan in place for Eleven to likely escape at the end.
Is it 100% rock solid proof? No! Shows and movies go through so many outlines and literal script changes the entire way, so it's hard for me to make a logical argument that Eleven is alive using only these bullet points on a whiteboard from the writers' room.
I love a good ambiguous ending — emphasis on the "good." Creators leave fans with something to think about, expand their mind and worldview, and use their brain. I don't know how much I love leaving Eleven's ending ambiguous, considering what it means, but I do really like how it was presented, with a trail of breadcrumbs or hidden clues for fans to follow to come to a very clear conclusion that Eleven is, in fact, alive.
Now, if you disagree and want to ignore the evidence that Eleven did survive and believe, she's dead. That's okay with me, but I really think that fans are on to something with the many theories about Eleven.
It's pretty clear, with how the season ended and this new evidence, that there was at least a plan at some point, potentially while the season or finale was being filmed, that would suggest Eleven made this plan with Kali and Hopper understood it would mean that she was choosing to live, away from the rest of the group.
Unfortunately, the discourse about the new documentary from Martina Radwan, which is an incredible look behind the scenes of, possibly, the biggest TV show of all time, has been hijacked, as well.
Many "fans" are complaining about the Duffer brothers, the writers, and the choices made and are using the documentary has proof of their incompetence. I push back strongly on those claims wholeheartedly, but I'm much more interested in the section of the fandom who is very interested in finding clues in the background about the story.
You can watch all five seasons of Stranger Things and the new documentary, One Last Adventure, on Netflix right now.
