It's only been five months and some change since Stranger Things came to an end on Netflix. Now, just in time for Memorial Day weekend, Netflix is rolling out a new sci-fi series that feels a lot like Stranger Things. It's even produced by the Duffer Brothers, too.
After months of anticipation, The Boroughs hits Netflix on Thursday, May 21, at 12 a.m. PT / 3 a.m. ET.
For years, Stranger Things fans stayed up late and watched the new seasons all night long. I don't know if The Boroughs fans will be showing up at that time, but I have a feeling this new sci-fi series is going to be a mega-hit for Netflix.

What is The Boroughs about?
Created by Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews and produced by Matt and Ross Duffer, The Boroughs tells the story of several people at a retirement community, known as The Boroughs, who discover they are living among monsters. I'm not spoiling anything; that's literally the synopsis.
"In the sun-drenched expanse of the New Mexico desert lies The Boroughs, a picturesque retirement community promising its residents the time of their lives. But for new arrival Sam Cooper, paradise feels more like a prison. Everything changes when a terrifying nighttime encounter reveals that something monstrous is stalking the manicured cul-de-sacs. Dismissed by the powers that be as just another confused old man, Sam finds unlikely allies in a band of neighborhood misfits: a sharp-witted former journalist, a spiritual seeker, a cynical music manager, and a brilliant doctor running out of options. Overlooked and underestimated, these unlikely heroes must band together to unravel the dark truth at the heart of The Boroughs before their time runs out."

The Boroughs cast
Sam, the lead character, is played by Alfred Molina, and he's joined by an absolutely incredible cast: Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Bill Pullman, Clarke Peters, Denis O'Hare, Jena Malone, Alice Kremelberg, Carlos Miranda, Seth Numrich, and Eric Edelstein.
We also have a The Sinner reunion with Pullman and Kremelberg. The pair starred in the fourth season of the hit mystery series.
We shared the full cast and character list below, too!

The Boroughs trailer introduces the characters, retirement community, and monsters
Watching the trailer, it feels like Stranger Things at a retirement community! Honestly, if I close my eyes and just listen, it even sounds like a trailer for a long-lost season of Stranger Things. Imagine if Mike, Eleven, Will, Lucas, Dustin, and Max grew old together and lived in the same cul-de-sac. That's how I'm heading into the series.
The Boroughs trailer also has some serious found family vibes based on the trailer, too. It looks like Sam is going to get the whole band together to figure out what these monsters are and how to stop them.
There's so much action in that little clip. It feels like Netflix spared no expense to bring this series to life. I can't wait to see what exactly this series has in store.
The key to this series succeeding wil hinge on a few things: the characters and the mystery. Are these characters charismatic enough to carry the story? Are they too jaded for fans to fall in love with? And is the mystery strong enough to keep fans entertained?
Stranger Things set an incredibly high bar for Netflix sci-fi projects. Of course, this show is going to be compared to the best Netflix has to offer. Can it succeed with this much hype? We'll see when The Boroughs premieres on Netflix on Thursday, May 21.
Stay tuned for more news and coverage of the new series on Winter is Coming!
