Syfy had us worried for a bit waiting for news about a potential third season of The Ark, about what's left of humanity traveling the stars in search of a new place to live. There’s finally a confirmation on the show’s future, and it’s good news.
Yes, The Ark season 3 is officially happening. TVLine shared the exciting news, which comes five months after the season 2 finale. At this point, I had to admit that I feared the worst for the sci-fi series.
When could The Ark season 3 premiere on Syfy?
As well as confirming that the third season would happen, Syfy has also shared that the season is on track to be part of the 2026 calendar. This makes sense with the renewal only just coming in now. As a sci-fi series, there is a lot of CGI involved and that means a long time in post-production.
Most of the original cast is expected to return. In the renewal news, TVLine mentioned Christie Burke, Richard Fleeshman, Reece Ritchie, Stacey Read, and Ryan Adams as part of the cast. This is interesting considering how the second season ended.
Dean Devlin will return as co-showrunner and EP of the series. He shared about the renewal, “We’re thrilled to launch another season of The Ark! Back in space again, and the best is yet to come!”
What to expect in The Ark season 3
We don't have any information about the plot for the new season just yet. Th second season ended with the crew of Ark-1 getting to a planet which can support life. After initially landing on Trappist 1D and finding out that people were acting a little too strangely, the crew got to the bottom of it. Things were a little too “perfect,” and it was soon clear that Maddox was behind it all.
Once Ark-1 was able to solve the mystery and save the people, they could decide what to do next. Not all the Arks from Earth had found a safe place to create a home. Garnet realized that Ark-10 and Ark-14 hadn’t made it to Trappist 1D just yet, so she had to go out and find them. A small group agreed to join her including Brice and Ian, while Kabir, Alicia, and Angus decided they were needed more on the planet.
This suggests that the third season could have two storylines happening at once. Angus did find out that there was something mysterious in the fields of Trappist 1D, and that’s likely to bring up some sort of threat on the planet. Meanwhile, we’ll continue the space story with Garnet and her new crew.
The Ark season 3 is set to premiere sometime in 2026 on Syfy.
