Take the Black: The Wheel of Time season 3 pics, Brandon Sanderson talks smack, and news from Westeros

We also remember the amazing career of David Lynch, contemplate why seasons of TV are getting smaller while wait times are growing, and more. Lots to cover this week!

Every week, we meet online for a new episode of Take the Black, where we talk all things sci-fi, fantasy, movies, TV and books. We decided to pile our plates high with topics this week, so there's no time to lose. Watch the new episode below!

How many topics can we blaze through in an hour? Let us count:

  • We got a new behind-the-scenes picture from A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, a new Game of Thrones prequel series coming out this year!
  • We're starting to hear things about filming on the third season of House of the Dragon, which will (probably) have eight episodes, just like the second season. It's a bit of a hard pill to swallow after the first season had 10 episodes. Why do seasons of prestige TV keep getting smaller as the wait times between them get longer? Let's noodle that question.
  • Prime Video has released a whole mess of glossy new images from the upcoming third season of The Wheel of Time! What elements of the books are making it into the show? Which are being left out? We get out our nerdy magnifying glass.
  • Author Brandon Sanderson, one of the most prominent fantasy writers in the world, is very up front with his opinions...possibly too up front. He's at it again, telling everyone what he thinks about the current crop of fantasy dramas.
  • Director David Lynch died last week. As a giant fan of his work, we had to take a moment to remember all that he's contributed to film and TV, and he contributed a lot.

With all that, we don't have much time for our weekly 'What Are We Watching?' section, but we give what we can. And we can't let an episode pass without an installment of the WiC News Lightning Round, where we run through a bunch of stories we couldn't get to in the main body of the show and give our 20-second opinions on them, no more and no less.
