Welcome to an extra-stuffed episode of Take the Black, the weekly chat show where we go over all things sci-fi, fantasy, movies, books and TV. We start this newest show by catching up on some sad news that broke over the weekend: The Wheel of Time show, based on the iconic series of novels by Robert Jordan, has been cancelled at Prime Video. Is this the end? Is fantasy TV over? Is there hope for the series to be saved? We definitvely answer all those questions a tidy 23-minute opening section:
And that's just a start. After that, we move onto big news over at HBO: a new Harry Potter show is coming, and they've cast the Golden Trio. Is this cause for celebration or a bold step down a road nobody wanted to take?
Next up: The Last of Us. The second season is over, and while we enjoyed the finale, something felt a little lacking. It might be the eternity we have to wait to see what happens next.
In a late-breaking story, George R.R. Martin vented a bit about fans who get frustrated whenever he does anything other than work on The Winds of Winter. I'll say this for Martin: the man speaks his mind and I can't claim I'm not entertained.
And as always, we go over what we've been watching and reading lately, from Murderbot to The Studio to even things that aren't streaming on Apple TV+. And always again, we blast through another installment of the WiC News Lightning Round, where we give our 20-second takes on a bunch of other stories that weren't important enough for us to talk about earlier.
