After first appearing as Jango Fett in Attack of the Clones (2002), Temuera Morrison made his triumphant return to the Star Wars franchise in The Book of Boba Fett. Many fans expected him to remain on our screens for more seasons, becoming a staple for the future of the galaxy far, far away. However, despite a popular debut season, the series ultimately faded away to memory, and we can presume that the project has been shelved, even though it was never formally axed.
In fairness to Disney and Lucasfilm, The Book of Boba Fett (2021) was never intended to have a multi-season run. It was originally billed as a limited series, but star Temuera Morrison had always hoped that the series had more in store. “When you do a series like Boba Fett and work with Ming-Na [Wen], I started to think, ‘Man, this is it. I’m away. Season 2, 3, 4.’ But at the end of it, we had a great time. I was honored to be brought back after all that time.”
Morrison has ardently tried to fight his way back into the fold. Notably, back in 2025, he implored fans at a convention to get the attention of Lucasfilm. Despite the outpouring of support vying for Boba's return, the executives weren't so pleased. “I was only joking," Morrison told Inverse. "I’m at a convention, and I say stupid things. Then I’ve got [Lucasfilm] ringing me: ‘Look, you’ve been put on the shelf, Boba Fett. We might open up the jar later.’”
While the powers that be at Disney and Lucasfilm are satisfied to pursue other projects that don't involve Boba Fett, Morrison is waiting in the wings ready to jump in when the opportunity arises. “[I’m] shelved, that’s all,” he concludes, “like a jar of peaches. When it does get opened, I’m going to come out sweeter, darling.”
The Book of Boba Fett was a solid series, even if it did start to veer towards a continuation of The Mandalorian towards the end. The latter will return in May for a feature movie The Mandalorian and Grogu. It is not expected to feature Boba Fett — Morrison himself has admitted that he's “still waiting for a phone call” from executives since 2024. The character appears to have been shelved, at least for now.
