In the previous episode of The Boroughs season 1, Sam makes a discovery about the creature's blood in his kitchen. When he and Wally test the blood, they witness what they can only chalk up to be a miracle. Finally, Sam has an ally on his side who believes his theories, as strange and out-there as they might seem. But they have an uphill battle left to fight to get to the bottom of the mystery.
The Boroughs season 1 episode 3 begins with Judy sitting outside and overhearing the strange noise coming from Sam's house. She peeks through the window and sees Sam placing an object inside a grocery bag held by Wally. The next day, Judy watches Sam receive a delivery and takes note of the happenings in his house and the neighborhood. She questions Wally when she sees him carrying science equipment to Sam's, but he doesn't break. Again, Hank's watching nearby.
Sam and Wally are working together with their combined engineer and doctor smarts to create a device to look into the creature. Neil drops by to collect the Bruce Springsteen record, which Sam hasn't found, and give Sam a book about grief. Judy struggles to dig up dirt on Sam through her old reporter contacts. Meanwhile, Renee's hit with a lawsuit from her ex-husband.

Jack's autopsy reveals the creature's intentions
Wally makes the discovery that whatever killed Jack had right-handed chirality after testing its blood, but that's a very scientific way of saying that he's still a long way from finding out what the creature was. But he does know they're dealing with something no one has ever seen. Wally wants to do an autopsy on Jack before he's cremated, which Sam begrudgingly agrees to.
Art heads back out into the desert to give Brooksy, his dead bird, a burial. Later that night, Sam and Wally take off for their autopsy mission. Renee gets an alert from the camera at the community center and calls Paz before chekcing it out. Now in the funeral home, Sam and Wally sneak around but are caught and peppered sprayed (with expired pepper spray) by Judy. She demands to know what they know about Jack's death. They have to quickly convince her to be on their side.
Judy agrees to join them to learn the truth, or at least try to be convinced of the truth. Renee sneaks into the community center with a golf club and finds quartz on the ground. There appears to be a creature in the storage room, but Paz turns on the lights and scares it off and Renee in the process. In the morgue, Sam and Judy leave Wally to perform the autopsy. Renee and Paz check the security footage, but whatever created chaos in the storage room wasn't caught on camera.

Sam and Judy have an honest conversation about her marriage with Art and how they had an open arrangement. But she broke their only rule and fell in love with Jack. Wally shows them the puncture wounds he found in the back of Jack's throat that lead to the base of his brain. They hypothesize that the creature was feeding off of Jack, and it's time to read Judy in on what's happening.
Back at Renee's, she and Paz are continuing to get to know each other and bond, and it quickly turns into a romantic evening with a kiss leading to more. Hank goes into the community center storage room and scans a box and finds a blue handprint from the creature, which he calls Scar. He's radioed about people being seen in the funeral home. Out in the desert, Art enters a creepy shack.
Wally checks Judy and Sam to see if the creature fed on them too, and he finds the marks on the back of their throats. Hanks arrives at the funeral home and arrests Sam when he catches him, which allows Wally and Judy, hidden in caskets, to get away. The creature emerges from Renee's oven and descends on her as she sleeps in her bed beside Paz. In the shack, Art picks a glowing peach from a strange tree, and it instantly cures the cut on his hand. Naturally, he takes a bite.
