The Boys may be coming to an end, but it seems another planned spinoff is rushing toward production.
The Boys just kicked off its fifth and final season on Prime Video, with fans eager to see how the wild superhero epic closes out its story. This won’t be the end of the universe, however, as filming is ongoing for Vought Rising, a prequel set in the 1950s showing how the Vought Corporation established an earlier wave of superheroes, including Jensen Ackles' Soldier Boy and Aya Cash's Stormfront.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Eric Kripke discussed plans for ending the mothership show, Vought Rising, the Supe college spinoff Gen V, and a surprising update on The Boys: Mexico, another spinoff currently in development.
“They just delivered a draft of the pilot to Amazon," he said. "Amazon seemed to really like it and seemed to be making all the right noises. They gave some notes, so we're gonna incorporate those notes. Gareth [Dunnet-Alcocer], who is the writer, is so smart and good. He'll do, I'm sure, another draft. But it feels like...who the hell knows? You can never predict this stuff, but we're hopeful.”
The series was first announced in 2023, with Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal serving as executive producers. Plot details are being kept under wraps, although reports are that the series will be a Spanish-language program. Prime Video has done that sort of thing before with international spinoffs of its spy series Citadel.

The concept offers a lot of potential. The Boys is mostly set in the United States, focusing on how Vought controls most of the country through their various financial and political endeavors. We haven’t seen much of the international scope and how Supe culture works in other countries. If The Boys: Mexico is a success, it's easy to imagine how it could become the blueprint for other spinoffs focusing on how different Supe culture is in Europe, Asia, and other countries around the world.
Mexico alone offers amazing opportunities thanks to the rich history and culture of the land. This is the nation of lucha libre, or masked wrestlers, who are already comparable to superhero characters in their own way. It could be that in this world, superpowered lucha libre are commonplace, or Supes are involved in the darker criminal underworld of Mexico.
The Boys: Mexico is still in the early stages, as Amazon has to okay the script and then officially order it. It’s likely it’d be an international production filmed in Mexico, and it's not clear yet how that could impact the franchise rights and other production concerns. There’s also the worry of fans that the series could expand too wide and too fast, which is an ironic problem for a show that often satirizes superhero movie universes.
Still, the idea of The Boys going international is a fun one that could offer a wider future for the property.
The Boys season 5 is now streaming on Prime Video, with new episodes dropping on Wednesdays.
