Prime Video's subversive superhero series The Boys is one of the best genre shows out there. The show takes everything you know about the superhero genre and flips it on its head. And it's pretty timely too, offering up a daring take on how modern politics may play out if those in charge had superpowers.
The main show will conclude with its fifth season, which is slated to premiere sometime in 2026. But fear not, series creator Eric Kripke is keen to expand its horizons through a number of spinoff projects. The Boys has already seen two spinoff shows, including the animated series Diabolical and Gen V, a live-action series set at a superhero collage. Gen V returns for its second season later this year. There's also another show in the works called Vought Rising, which is set in the past and follows Soldier Boy (Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash).
Beyond the two spinoffs we've got, there's plenty of potential for The Boys Universe to grow and expand. No doubt Prime Video would be willing to throw more money at the series, too. It's incredibly popular and successful. On the topic of spinoffs, star Cameron Crovetti — who plays Homelander's son Ryan — is totally down to have his own show. “I’d be like, ‘Yes! Get me on that!’ That’d be really, really cool,” he told Collider.
Crovetti went on to explain that Ryan's childhood — which he spent surrounded by people with questionable ideologies, not least his tyrannical father Homelander — makes for a super-interesting storyline as he grows older. How has all of this affected him?
"I think that'd be a really cool storyline to see — it's definitely like with Homelander and Butcher, he's very, I don't know what to say, it's like wishy-washy of who he wants to go with because he's so impressionable right now, and he's still so young. And with having a crazy dad like Homelander, I feel like there's definitely a lot that would affect him. And I think that'd be really interesting to explore and see how that affects him as he grows older."
There's no word on any Ryan-centric spinoff yet, but I would love to see his story continue. In the meantime, filming is now officially underway on the fifth and final season of The Boys! The final season promises an epic Homelaner-Butcher showdown. While Crovetti is sworn to strict NDA's, he does tease “a big finale” where things are “definitely going to get crazy.”
The Boys season 5 will premiere on Prime Video sometime in 2026.
