The Boys deserves a round of applause for doing something I would have thought impossible: in an age when Hollywood is making more movies and shows about superheroes than ever before, The Boys stands out. A blistering satire of modern politics masquerading as a hyper-violent superhero drama, The Boys might be the TV show that best captures the maniachal energy of the Trump era. It's also a show where an Ant-Man-like superhero once shrunk himself down and crawled up his lover's member and then exploded him from the inside when he involuntarily snapped back to normal size. The Boys has something for everyone!
There's nothing quite like The Boys on TV, and I'm going to miss it when it's gone. And that time is coming: showrunner Eric Kripke recently tweeted out a photo of himself on set for the last time. "It'll be torn down soon. It's bittersweet, but my primary feeling is gratitude," he wrote. "To the fans: can't wait for you to see the grand finale. That's a wrap."
This is the last time I'll ever be on this set. It'll be torn down soon. It's bittersweet, but my primary feeling is gratitude. To #TheBoys family: I love you. To the fans: can't wait for you to see the grand finale. That's a wrap. (Pic by @karenfukuhara). @theboystv @primevideo pic.twitter.com/gSGVJAdR08

So cameras have stopped rolling on the fifth and final season of the show. The wrap party was held a few weeks back. It's almost time to say goodbye to Homelander, Billy Butcher, Hughie, Starlight and all the rest.
But not quite. They have one last adventure to go on, and it sounds like it's going to be a doozy. The fourth season ended with the psychopathic superhero Homelander being installed as the effective leader of the United States, with a critical mass of lawmakers bowing to his will. He quickly went about kidnapping the Boys, our anti-Supe group of heroes, and is planning to usher in a new world order where superheroes are the ruling class and the rest of us their slaves. Only Billy Butcher and Starlight escaped Homelander's spree, which is where we'll pick up when The Boys returns on Prime Video sometime in 2026.
Although The Boys is ending, Amazon is working on other shows set in the same universe. The spinoff Gen V, set at a college for budding superheroes, is already out; the second season premieres September 17. Then there's Vought Rising, a new prequel series that will follow some of the first superheroes; that one will star familiar faces like Jensen Ackles (Solder Boy) and Aya Cash (Stormfront). They're also working on a Spanish-language spinoff set in Mexico, although we haven't heard anything about that one in a while.
We'll see if any of them can capture the satirical mania of The Boys. The original show has set a high bar.
