You might think that The Gilded Age, HBO's mannered period drama about feather-light conflict between members of the upper crust in 1880s New York City, doesn't have anything in common with Gen V, a spinoff of The Boys where college students get their heads lasered off by sociopathic superheroes. And you'd be right...except for one thing: both of them are greatly expanding their casts ahead of their new seasons: that's season 3 for The Gilded Age and season 2 for Gen V.
Let's start with The Gilded Age, which counts the likes of Carrie Coon, Morgan Spector, Louisa Jacobson, Denee Benton, Taissa Farmiga, and Harry Richardson among its cast. Deadline reports on six new cast members coming aboard for season 3, some of them playing real-life figures from the time:
- Dylan Baker (The Good Wife) is Dr. Logan, who treats super-fancy high society families
- Kate Baldwin is Nancy Adams Bell, the older sister of John Adams (The Gilded Age character, not the real-life president)
- Michael Cumpsty (Severance) as British nobleman Lord Mildmay
- John Ellison Conlee (Boardwalk Empire) as Weston, a successful businessman
- Bobby Steggert (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as John Singer Sargent, a real-life famous artist
- Hannah Shealy as Charlotte Astor, the daughter of real-life socialite supreme Mrs. Astor
I can already see the new cast members having brutally polite dinner conversation in a magnificently apportioned dining room only for the fun to be interrupted by a breach of etiquette so minor that I wouldn't have noticed had the characters not acted like it was the apocalypse. I kid, but I will watch this; The Gilded Age is 100% my guilty pleasure show. Manners are coming!
The Boys spinoff Gen V adds seven new cast members ahead of season 2
Meanwhile, over in the blood-boiling, bone-crunching world of Gen V, a septet of new actors are joining the cast: Keeya King (Yellowjackets), Stephen Kalyn (Warrior Strong), Julia Knope (In The Dark), Stacey McGunnigle (This Hour Has 22 Minutes), Tait Fletcher (The Mandalorian), Wyatt Dorion (Eerie Hall) and Georgie Murphy (Accused). Unlike with The Gilded Age, we don't know who they're playing. We can rest assured none of them are playing real-life people.
Gen V is set at Godolkin University, where young superheroes learn the ins and out of the people-saving business. Of course, in the world of The Boys, most of the superheroes are narcissistic glory hounds who only put on a show of caring about people other than themselves. And they often die in brutally disgusting ways before they have a chance to work on themselves.
These seven new cast members will join the current roster of Jaz Sinclair, Lizze Broadway, Maddie Phillips, London Thor, Asa Germann and Shelley Conn. In season 1, Chance Perdomo played the role of Andre Anderson, but the actor died tragically in a motorcycle accident earlier this year. His role will not be recast for season 2.
Neither The Gilded Age season 3 nor Gen V season 2 have firm release dates set, but both are expected to come out in 2025. Let's hope they don't air at the same time, forcing their shared audience to choose.
