The Handmaid's Tale started on Hulu way back in 2017. The show began by adapting Margaret Atwood's classic book about a dystopian society where the few remaining fertile women are turned into slaves to stem a population crisis. Their only purpose is to bear children for the elites in society.
The Handmaid's Tale has stuck with this story, although it's gone far beyond the pages of Atwood's book. The upcoming sixth season will close out the series. Here's a rundown of when each of the 10 episodes will come out:
- Season 6, Episode 1: "Train" — April 8, 2025
- Season 6, Episode 2: "Exile" — April 8, 2025
- Season 6, Episode 3: "Devotion" — April 8, 2025
- Season 6, Episode 4: "Promotion" — April 15, 2025
- Season 6, Episode 5: "Janine" — April 22, 2025
- Season 6, Episode 6: "Surprise" — April 29, 2025
- Season 6, Episode 7: "Shattered" — May 6, 2025
- Season 6, Episode 8: "Exodus" — May 13, 2025
- Season 6, Episode 9: "Execution" — May 20, 2025
- Season 6, Episode 10: "The Handmaid's Tale" — May 27, 2025
Note that the first three episodes of The Handmaid's Tale season 6 will drop all at once on the same day, a pretty common release tactic in the streaming age. After that, episodes will come out at a rate of one per week. So you can binge three episodes all at once and get hooked, and then enjoy the tension as you wait for the next leg of the story all the way up to the series finale on May 27. All the episodes drop on Tuesdays.
Although The Handmaid's Tale is ending, Hulu will continue to explore this world. It's working on a new series called The Testaments, based on Margaret Atwood's book of the same name. The Testaments is a sequel to The Handmaid's Tale set years after the events of the original story. Characters from the original show will appear in the sequel, including Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd). There's no release date for The Testaments set as yet.
