The Rings of Power dethroned from Amazon's top 10 by Game of Thrones vet's new movie

The season 2 finale of The Lord of the Rigns: The Rings of Power aired early this month, and ever since it's hung around the top 10 most-watched shows and movies available on Amazon Prime Video, often claiming the number one spot. Today that changes. Brothers, a new movies starring Josh Brolin and Peter Dinklage as twin brothers (and criminals) who going on a cross-country roadtrip in pursuit of a big score, has dethroned it.

Brothers is a goofy action-comedy kind of movie, with some sentimental family drama thrown in there for good measure. By and large, folks seem not to like it; the movie has a 37% rotten rating from critics and a 41% rotten rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. It's got big names in it — in addition Dinklage and Brolin, the movie also stars Glenn Close, Marisa Tomei and Brendan Fraser — but that's not enough to overcome a formulaic script.

Still, there's something kind of funny about a movie that stars maybe the biggest breakout actor from Game of Thrones — Peter Dinklage — knocking The Rings of Power, a show clearly inspired by the success of Game of Thrones, out of the top spot. But with Brothers getting middling reviews, it may drop a few places yet, and my bet is that The Rings of Power will hang around the top 10 a while longer.

Despite The Rings of Power's continued success, we still haven't heard anything about Amazon renewing its Lord of the Rings prequel series for a third season, although both cast and crew sound optimistic. The longer Amazon waits to renew, the longer the wait for a third season will be, and the greater the chances are that people will lose interest, so hopefully we hear good news in the near future.
