It's been nearly a year since The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 premiered on Prime Video, and finally, we have an update to share about The Rings of Power season 3.
On social media, the official account for The Rings of Power shared the first teaser from set that revealed filming officially started in the summer of 2025. In the clip, we see Sauron's crown, which I believe is also Morgoth's Iron Crown, being transported on the set of season 3. It's a small teaser of what's to come in the new season!

There's been a bit of confusion about what's going on with The Rings of Power season 3 since the end of season 2. Finally, in February, Prime Video revealed The Rings of Power season 3 was officially renewed. It's hard to say what took them so long to confirm the renewal, but there are many theories being floated around about ratings, viewership, costs, and more. I'm sure someone actually knows what was going on, but publicly, Prime Video has remained committed to The Rings of Power's future.
The streamer even teasers what's next in season 3 after that epic season 2 finale! There's so much left to this story and room for J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay to explore, but they have to figure out a way to do that in a way that keeps fans interested, engaged, and excited about what's next.
Jumping forward several years from the events of Season 2, Season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last. pic.twitter.com/jEkntXQOPc

After setting it up in the season 2 finale, there's going to be a time jump that accelerates this story, which could be the thing the show needs to take it to another level. From a production perspective, this show is as amazing as anything on TV, but the story sometimes gets a little bit lost in the weeds. Jumping right into the middle of a massive war between the Elves and Sauron while Sauron is making the One Ring to Rule Them All? That's the sweet spot!
Production on season 3 actually started a little bit earlier this year, according to Amazon, but with a production this large, it's hard to say where things stand heading into the late summer and early fall. I can guarantee that the cast and crew are nowhere near wrapping, which has big implications about the future of the series.
Unfortunately, The Rings of Power season 3 is not coming to Prime Video anytime soon. With the renewal coming so late and production taking nearly a year from the start of season 2 premiere, I have to imagine that we're at least a year away from the premiere of The Rings of Power season 3.
With all of the big Amazon shows in the works right now, I will be very surprised if The Rings of Power season 3 premieres before the late summer or early fall of 2026.
We'll share more news about The Rings of Power season 3 when we find out!
