Amazon canceled The Wheel of Time, its epic fantasy TV series based on the books by Robert Jordan, a couple of weeks ago, about a month after airing the season 3 finale. It was rotten timing, since the show got cut off in the middle of the story after airing what was easily its best season so far.
There have been a lot of reactions since then; some cast wistfully said goodbye while others seemed (playfully) angry. The show's passionate fans immediately got to work trying to save the show, circulating a petition and buying billboards in the hopes that Amazon would reverse its decision or another network or streaming service would continue the show. Showrunner Rafe Judkins has admitted that the odds of the show coming back from this are long, but he's not completely out of hope. And the fan activity seems to have inspired another cast member: Shohreh Aghdashloo, who came on board in the third season as the power-hungry Aes Sedai Elaida.
"Though the Wheel may pause, the story of The Wheel of Time must be told," Aghdashloo wrote on Twitter/X/whatever you feel like calling it these days. "Elaida has not played her last card, and with the power of our incredible fans, we'll weave this tale back to life."
This is definitely the most hopeful any cast member has sounded about a potential continuation of The Wheel of Time, and considering how industrious the fans have been since the show was cancelled, I understand why. It's hard not to get inspired when they've come together this quickly and robustly.
The odds to do seem long, but there's a history of shows being revived in one form or another after cancellation; examples include Firefly, Arrested Development, Cobra Kai, Manifest, Lucifer, Community and The Expanse, so why not The Wheel of Time? A motivated fan campaign can only help.
It also helps that Shohreh Aghdashloo, a veteran of The Expanse and one of the bigger names from the cast, is talking about this. I hope as many people as possible speak up about this, particularly if they have any sway or cache, until Amazon or some other streamer comes to their senses.
