The Stranger Things cast were "sobbing uncontrollably" over series finale

Stranger Things star David Harbour (Hopper) deems the upcoming series finale the "best" episode of the show.

Stranger Things is one of the brightest jewels in Netflix's crown. The paranormal sci-fi series has been on our screens for almost a decade, with the final season currently in production and set to air sometime in 2025. With filming nearing an end, the cast are going through a rollercoaster of emotions, but don't take it from me: star David Harbour (Hopper) recently revealed what the vibe is like on set.

Speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast about the final season, Harbour explained that he's naturally critical of the show. He loves it so much that he'll happily pick it apart to ensure it's the best it can be. “Look, I'm very close to the show, so I have very strong opinions,” he said. “And they may not match yours if you're a fan of the show.”

He went on to explain that sometimes he'll "get very mad" at decisions that get made, and he's not afraid to call the team out. All that is to say, Harbour is incredibly passionate about the series. “I can be very critical of this show,” he added.

However, his criticisms appear few and far between. He went on to reveal that season 5, episode 8 (aka, the series finale), is the single best episode of the entire show. “They land the plane, and it is the best episode they’ve ever done.”

"The end of this episode when we were reading it — just us reading it — about halfway through, people started crying. Then about the last 20 minutes, it was just uncontrollably crying, waves of different people. Noah Schnapp being my favorite."

“It's 10 years later, and we examine that idea, and it's so well done and so beautiful,” he concluded. It's such a great episode, and it's such a great season. You guys will love it.”

The season 4 finale left our team in a perilous situation. Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) was killed in the Upside Down, and Max (Sadie Sink) had been hospitalized after a run-in with inter-dimensional serial killer Vecna. In the final moments, our team looks out as the hellish Upside Down landscape seeps into the sleepy town of Hawkins, Indiana. The threat of its omnipotent entity Vecna is still very real.

Stranger Things 5 will likely premiere sometime in 2025. Netflix has not set a release date yet. The last new episode aired in May of 2022, so three years may well have passed before the final season begins to air. At least Harbour makes it sound like the wait will be worth it.
