If you're one of those fans who stopped watching The Walking Dead many years ago, perhaps it's time to jump back into AMC's zombie franchise. The main series ended in 2022 after 11 seasons on the air. Since then, the Walking Dead Universe has aired a number of fantastic sequel spinoffs. This includes the return of fan-favorites Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) in The Ones Who Live, which is currently performing exceptionally well on Netflix.
The Ones Who Live is a six-episode limited series chronicling the life of Rick Grimes after he left the main show in season 9. In his final episode of The Walking Dead, he was involved in an explosion and seemingly left for dead. However, he was ultimately saved by Jadis (Polyanna McIntosh) and taken away from his family to a high-security community called the Civic Republic to live out the rest of his days.
Meanwhile, Michonne (who left the mother show a season later) holds a steadfast belief that Rick survived the explosion, and she's been out looking for him in the years that passed. The Ones Who Live is a emotional rollercoaster of a series. It's a love story at its core, following two people trying to find each other in a broken world.
The Ones Who Live has become a massive global hit at Netflix!
Since subsequently landing at Netflix, The Ones Who Live has been opened up to an enormous audience. According to Netflix's Tudum, The Walking Dead spinoff claimed the #5 spot in its most popular shows from January 20-26.
Per Forbes, The Ones Who Live peaked at #2 on Netflix's TV charts. This makes it the highest-performing Walking Dead show in the streamer's history. Netflix also hosts other Walking Dead spinoffs such as Daryl Dixon and Dead City, both of which will return for new seasons in 2025.
While many viewers think The Walking Dead has had its day, the AMC franchise continues to prove its dedicated audience will watch anything and everything there is to offer. Personally, I can't recommend The Ones Who Live highly enough!
