2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year for The Witcher, Netflix's monster-hunting fantasy saga based on the novels by Andrzej Sapkowski. Next month, the streamer is dropping The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, a new spinoff movie set during Geralt's early days as a monster hunter. But sometime later this year we'll be treated to the main event when The Witcher season 4 premires on Netflix, and we get to see Liam Hemsworth onscreen as Geralt of Rivia for the first time following the departure of Henry Cavill.

We still don't have a solid release date for The Witcher season 4, but we do have another exciting piece of information that might help make the picture clearer. According to reliable Witcher scoop site Redanian Intelligence, pre-production has begun for The Witcher season 5. Yes, soon the cameras will get rolling on the final season of the hit Netflix television show!

The Witcher season 4 and 5 were planned to be filmed back-to-back, with filming wrapping for season 4 in late October 2024. Around that time, Hemsworth gave his first interview about the series, clarifying the timeline for production by saying that the production would "break for about four months and then come back next year and do another eight months [of filming].“ RI says the production is due to film season 5 from late March to September 2025, which lines up pretty closely with Hemsworth's statement.

As for the work being done right now, think building sets, creating costumes, and planning out what's to come for the production. All the writing on season 5 is already complete, meaning most of what the show is doing at the moment is likely preparing for the actual shoot ahead.

When will The Witcher season 4 premiere?

RI also makes a pretty interesting observation that I'm inclined to agree with: if The Witcher is slated to wrap filming on its fifth and final season around September of this year, then season 4 will probably premiere later than that so that the actors are able to promote it. At the very least, it's unlikely Netflix will drop it while Hemsworth is still off in the wilds somewhere with Geralt's white wig on, unable to talk at all about the upcoming fourth season to help get fans excited. This is a crucial juncture for The Witcher, and it's highly likely Netflix will want the actors on hand for press appearances to help maximize its success.

That means the earliest we can expect to see The Witcher season 4 is probably sometime in September or October. But of course, take all this with a grain of salt until we get an official confirmation from Netflix.

In the meantime, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep hits the streaming platform on February 11. The animated spinoff movie from Studio Mir features Geralt's video game voice actor Doug Cockle back in the role for the first time since The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
