The Witcher season 4 wasn't short of villains, but there was one villain in particular who made a big impression with fans. Yes, we're talking about Sharlto Copley's portrayal of ruthless bounty hunter Leo Bonhart.

Leo Bonhart plays a big role in multiple novels within Andrzej Sapkowski's The Witcher series. His story mainly focuses on his pursuit Ciri after catching wind that she is associated with the Rats, a gang of young thieves.

Portrayed by Copley in The Witcher season 4, the character wastes no time in displaying his cut-throat brutality, spilling Witcher blood in his first scene. It's not long before he sets his sights on The Rats, and more specifically, Ciri (Freya Allan).

When Bonhard reaches The Rats, what follows is easily one of the bloodiest and most violent sequences of television in recent years. He doesn't just kill them; he butchers them and relishes in it.

Of all the new cast members in The Witcher season 4 — including Liam Hemsworth's debut as Geralt of Rivia — it was Copley's electric performance that had viewers most impressed. With the season wrapped up, the actor took to X to thank fans for their positive reaction to his work. "Hope you enjoy me Leo," he wrote. "Tried to keep him faithful to the spirit of the books."

Sharlto Copley is receiving tons of praise from fans: "Best character of this season"

Naturally, fans flooded his replies with praise. "Absolutely brilliant mate," one fan wrote, adding: "AND the single most satisfying scene in the history of the franchise end of episode 8."

Praise over Bonhart's slaughter of the Rats kept on coming: "Watching you wipe out the Rats was easily the most satisfying moment of the season! Thank you for a job well done."

"You were by far the best thing in that entire season, mate," another wrote.

He was also the reason one viewer decided to give the season a shot. "You brought me back to watching it. Master class!"

The Witcher season 4 certainly had its ups and downs, but Copley's portrayal of Leo Bonhart will undoubtedly go down as a season highlight -- and a highlight of the entire series, for that matter. We won't be forgetting about his brutal confrontation outside of the Chimera’s Head Inn anytime soon.

The Witcher season 4 is now streaming on Netflix. The fifth and final season is slated to premiere in 2026, although no release window has been announced.
