The Witcher season 4 reported release month leaks (and it's good news)

The Witcher fans, rejoice! After years of waiting—and a lot of behind-the-scenes changes—season 4 could be coming soon.

First airing in 2019, Netflix's The Witcher has gone on to become one of the streamer's most popular fantasy franchises. Based on the best-selling novels by Andrzej Sapkowski (and taking heavy inspiration from the beloved video game series), The Witcher follows monster-hunter Geralt of Rivia and his adventures, trials, and tribulations across The Continent.

Looking ahead to season 4, The Witcher has undergone a few major changes since we last saw it on our screens. Perhaps most notably, Henry Cavill stepped down after season 3, having announced his departure from the series in 2022. The titular role was subsequently given to Liam Hemsworth, who will play Geralt beginning in season 4 through to its fifth and final season.

Geralt isn't the only recast character. Vesemir will also be recast after star Kim Bodnia left the show due to scheduling conflicts, namely to focus on his role in the F1 movie.

The Witcher 4 will reportedly premiere in October 2025

According to a report from long-time Witcher source Redanian Intelligence (which has been consistently reliable over the years), season 4 will arrive just in time for spooky season this October. The site says they do not know the exact date, but speculate because there is an open slot on Netflix's calendar right now for Thursday, Oct. 30, that could be the time.

This is, of course, great news for fans, as we had started to suspect the new installment would be pushed back to 2026.

Additionally, the site also reveals that all eight episodes of The Witcher season 4 will be released in one go. This goes against the streamer's ever-increasing volume strategy, which has been implemented in a number of series in 2025, such as The Sandman, Wednesday, and Stranger Things.

The October release date makes a lot of sense, but it's not officially confirmed by Netflix yet. Whether it's a trick or a treat remains to be seen.

The Witcher spinoff The Rats is reportedly still happening

Redanian Intelligence also reports that the spinoff The Rats is actually happening after all, after it had been believed to be shelved.

Between season 4 and The Rats, Netflix has been sleeping on promoting all things Witcher in 2025. Nowadays, they tend to begin really marketing shows and movies around a month or so before they debut—unless they're the tentpole ones like Stranger Things.

In the case of The Rats, a prequel following a gang of six teenage thieves teased at the end of season 3, things have been quite muddy. The proposed series went through reported production hell, with sources close to the project deeming it a "disaster." Yikes.

However, according to this new report, Netflix still plans to release a version of the project, but in the form of a feature-length movie. As for a release date, things are still unclear, although the report suggests it could be released later this year. As with The Witcher release date, this has yet to be confirmed by the streamer, so we'll be keeping an eye out for any official announcement.

As always, we'll keep you posted on all things The Witcher.
