Geralt of Rivia has finished the next leg of his journey, and Netflix's monster-hunting fantasy show The Witcher has wrapped filming on its fourth season. This news comes courtesy of reliable Witcher scoop site Redanian Intelligence, who noticed that cast member Freya Allan (Ciri) posted a farewell message to Ciri's new thief accomplices, The Rats, on Instagram. "Mistle, Iskra, Giselher, Reef, Kayleigh, Asse. I love you all. Thank you for the most special season of [The Witcher]," the actor wrote, along with artwork she made for each of the characters.

The Rats are the band of teenage thieves Ciri met at the end of season 3. She spends the whole of Andrzej Sapkowski's Witcher book Baptism of Fire as part of their gang, so it's no surprise that Allan likely spent quite a lot of time with the actors in that troupe: Christelle Elwin (Mistle), Aggy K. Adams (Iskra), Ben Radcliffe (Giselher), Juliette Alexandra (Reef), Fabian McCallum (Kayleigh), and Connor Crawford (Asse).

The Witcher season 4 began production in April 2024, which means from start to finish it wrapped up in around seven months. Extensive filming took place in a few import locations, most notably Longcross Studio near London, where the majority of The Witcher's soundstage work is believed to have been filmed. It also filmed some scenes in Wales last month, scene which are believed to include parts of the Battle of the Bridge, an important skirmish from Baptism of Fire which is expected to happen in season 4.

Redanian Intelligence also managed to dig up some photos from a wrap party for the season. We're not sure about the source of them so take it with a grain of salt, but the spies over at RI don't often miss so I imagine the images are legit:

When does The Witcher season 4 release?

Now The Witcher enters into post-production. In an interview earlier this month, star Liam Hemsworth mentioned that the series has a four-month break now that filming is done, before he and the rest of the cast head back out in early 2024 to film the fifth and final season for another eight months. So we know when season 5 starts filming. But when will we watch season 4?

My guess would be sometime in mid-to-late 2025, and Redanian Intelligence is of the same opinion. According to their math, The Witcher season 3 ended filming in September 2022 and was released on Netflix in June and July of 2023. Even supposing The Witcher season 4 needs a bit more time in post-production, it's still very realistic to expect we might be watching it sometime in 2025.

But even if we aren't, there'll be plenty of other Witcher stuff to keep us occupied. A new animated spinoff movie, The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, premieres on Netflix on February 11, 2025. Author Andrzej Sapkowski has also finished a new Witcher novel which is expected to hit bookstore shelves in Poland this December and release internationally sometime afterward. So we'll have plenty of ways to visit the Continent next year.
