There is no new episode of Outlander this week

Outlander season 7 is over, but the eighth and final season is on the way, as is a new prequel series. 2025 will be a big year for the franchise!

The seventh season of Outlander came to an end on Friday, January 10 with the episode "A Hundred Thousand Angels." That was a wrap on the series for now. If you're hoping to watch a new episode of Outlander this upcoming Friday, January 17, whether lineally on Starz or through streaming, you're out of luck.

There were technically 16 episodes in this most recent season, although they aired in two chunks spaced so far apart that they felt more like two separate seasons. The first eight episodes aired from June of 2023 through that August and the second eight aired from November of 2024 through January of this year. Calling that one season feels like a bit of a stretch.

The show has one season left: Outlander season 8 is expected to air sometime in 2025, although we don't know exactly when. The eighth season will wrap up the story of Jamie Fraser, Jamie Fraser and all of their friends. Of note, it will not actually adapt the entirety of author Diana Gabaldon's book series, since she has yet to release her tenth and final book. If the timing works out, the final season of the Outlander TV show and the final book in the Outlander novel series could come out around the same time, which would be quite serendipitous and great for marketing.

On top of that, Starz will also air a new Outlander spinoff series this year called Blood of My Blood, which will explore the love stories between Jamie's parents and Claire's parents, living in the 18th and 20th centuries respectively. Once again, we don't know exactly when that show will come out, but we know it will premiere sometime before Outlander season 8.

So there you go! Even though Outlander season 7 is ending, 2025 promises to be a huge year for the franchise with lots to look forward to.
