There is no seventh episode of Dune: Prophecy — the first season is over

There are only six episodes in the first season of Dune: Prophecy. The show will be back for a second season at...some point.

The first season of Dune: Prophecy is officially over! Yes, the sixth episode, "The High-Handed Enemy," is the final one in this first season. Six episodes may not seem like a lot, but...actually I don't know how to finish that sentence. It's not a lot. Although to be fair, the episodes we got were dense and lengthy. Making a splashy, great-looking show like this takes time and resources, and something often has to give. In this case it was episode count.

In any case, if you're hoping for another episode to air next Sunday, you're out of luck. That said, new episodes will be along...eventually. A few days before the season 1 finale aired, HBO announced that it was renewing Dune: Prophecy for another season. We don't have exact ratings numbers, but it must have done well enough for HBO to roll the dice on another season.

I definitely want to know what happens next. The first season of Dune: Prophecy ended with many questions left unanswered, namely the identity of the person or persons behind the plot to turn Desmond Hart into a living weapon. On top of that, the characters all have things left to resolve. Valya Harkonnen, Kieran Atreides and Ynez Corrino are all now on the planet Arrakis, trying to hunt down answers. Tula Harkonnen is on Salusa Secundus with Desmond, who we know now is her son. And things are completely chaotic back on the Bene Gesserit homeworld of Wallach IX, where Lila has been possessed by the consciousness of her deceased foremother Doretea, who has seemingly taken over the Sisterhood with the intent to steer it in a completely different direction.

We'll get to see how this all resolves in the second season of Dune: Prophecy, which probably won't come out for a while. Shows like this are big undertakings and we don't know anything about the production schedule. I wouldn't bet on seeing new episodes of HBO and Max before 2026 at the very earliest.
