Tom Felton was one of a number of actors who made their names on the backs of the Harry Potter movies, where he played the sniveling bully Draco Malfoy. Felton and his costars — including the likes of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint — have put those films behind them, but with news that HBO is working on a new Harry Potter TV show, all eyes are on them again. Might they appear in the new series?

Several of the original actors have been asked this question, and most have either said they wouldn't appear in the new show or that they would be open to appearing but hadn't heard anything, which makes sense. This will be a whole new show with a whole new cast; we already know several of the actors who will be playing iconic roles like Dumbledore, Snape, Hagrid and Professor McGonagall. It would be weird to have actors from the movies running around and confusing people.

But maybe just a fan service for the diehards? Of everyone from the original cast, Tom Felton came the closest to confirming he might actually take part in the new series. "I'll definitely be sneaking into a background shot as an extra," he said during the opening of a new Harry Potter shop in Chicago last month, per CBR.

HBO has not confirmed Felton's involvement, and it's very possible he was just joking, but this is the closest thing to solid information on the subject we have, so we'll hold onto it for now.

Of course, a whole new actor will be playing Draco Malfoy, although we don't know who yet. "I think we're all very excited to see the wizarding world continue," Felton said. "I look forward to knocking on young Draco's door and surprising him, or something like that." That will be an adorable photo op one day.

Although we know some of the actors who will be playing the adult characters, HBO has been mum on younger characters like Draco, Harry, Hermione and Ron; if they've cast those roles yet, they're sitting on the information, which is probably for the best. Those kids will get plenty of attention when the time comes; it's best HBO shield them from that kind of intense scrutiny while it's still possible.

The new Harry Potter is expected to begin filming this summer. Look for it to premiere on HBO and Max sometime in 2026.
