Tom Holland confirms Spider-Man 4 will film in Summer 2025: "It's happening"

Just when you thought Tom Holland might be out of the web-slinging game, he drops a surprise announcement that the next Spider-Man film is happening — and sooner than expected at that!

Ever since Spider-Man: No Way Home came out and blew up the box office to the tune of nearly $2 billion, fans have been clambering for any news about a sequel. Starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, aka everyone's friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, No Way Home was a rip-roaring success both because of how well it serviced longtime fans with the return of previous Spideys Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire as well as how all-around good its story was. Yes, Marvel has been slowly buckling under the weight of its ever-expanding Multiverse Saga, but No Way Home stands as one of the best examples of a Multiverse movie done right.

It also left Holland's Parker in an interesting place. After saving Earth-616 from impending doom, the minds of everyone in that world were wiped so that they didn't remember the identity of Spider-Man. So not only are the Avengers out one of their key members, but even Parker's closest companions like his girlfriend MJ (Zendaya) and best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon) don't remember who he is. Would we ever see a sequel that explored what happened next for this iteration of the web-slinger?

There were rumbles before now that Sony and Marvel were working on a script, but now it's official: Tom Holland is returning for Spider-Man 4! He announced the news this week on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. "It's happening," Holland said. "Next summer we start shooting. Everything's good to go, we're nearly there. Super exciting. Yeah, I can't wait."

Tom Holland recalls how he lied to everyone about Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield being in Spider-Man: No Way Home

After a few years of back and forth, it's nice to finally have a confirmation that Spider-Man 4 is happening with Holland, and that it's filming next summer to boot! Now that the cat's out of the bag, Holland can talk even more about it. He recently opened up on The Rich Roll Podcast about how he and Zendaya have been reading scripts for the film, and the overall state of where it's at. “It needs work, but the writers are doing a great job. I read it three weeks ago and it really lit a fire in me,” he said. “Zendaya and I sat down and read it together and we at times were bouncing around the living room, like this is a real movie worthy of the fans’ respect.”

Holland talked about a few other things while he was on Fallon, including No Way Home. Back when the actor was promoting that film, Fallon asked him over Zoom if Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield were in the movie. Holland lied at the time and said no, something they got a good laugh out of before the actor gave the confirmation about Spider-Man 4.

"It was the highlight of my career, it was amazing," Holland said of working with Maguire and Garfield. As for how Marvel and Sony kept the return of the previous Spider-Men so quiet, Holland said they "were in a bubble. We were shooting on set, everything was on a studio. Tobey and Andrew would come to set in like a cloak, it was like something out of Star Wars."

It is pretty funny to imagine Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield walking about a backlot in cloaks like scary Siths or mysterious Jedi. All in the name of showbiz!

Tom Holland's non-alcoholic beer Bero is out now!

The whole reason Holland was on Fallon in the first place was to promote Bero, his new non-alcoholic beer that just launched. It's a pretty normal thing for celebrities to get in on building brands once they reach a certain level of fame, but Holland clarified that Bero has a personal place in his heart. A few years ago, Holland realized that he had gotten addicted to alcohol, and after getting sober, the one aspect of it that he really missed was feeling included in social events at bars and restaurants without a drink in hand. So he approached his agent about finding a partner for Bero, and the rest is history.

Bero is available now wherever you buy your non-alcoholic beer. As for Spider-Man 4, we'll be on the lookout for more updates as we get closer to its Summer 2025 shooting dates.
