Christopher Nolan is a director so respected and beloved he was able to make a biography about a scientist and turn it into a billion-dollar success story. It didn't have superheroes in it or anything. I can only imagine how big a hit he could have with The Odyssey, Homer's epic tale of the Greek hero Odysseus, who must make his way home through many trials and travails.

The Odyssey, which stars Matt Damon as Matt Damon and Tom Holland as his son Telemachus, is due out next year, but the first trailer for the movie is airing now ahead of screenings of Jurassic World Rebirth. I assume that Universal Pictures plans to release the trailer online at some point, but some fans couldn't wait, because a bootleg version of the trailer has been floating around the internet since yesterday.

We are not going to link to the trailer — do you want us to get sued? — but if you want to find it, you can probably do so by poking around your social media platform of choice.

We can describe it, though, and at least share the poster.

The trailer is short on details and long on foreboding shots of the ocean. The mood is deadly serious, as befits a Christopher Nolan production. We don't actually see Odysseus up close, only glimpsing him in long shots. They're building some mystery and intrigue.

We do get a bit of dialog between Telemachus and a character played by Jon Bernthal whom IGN thinks is King Menelaus. Telemachus asks where his father is. Menelaus hasn't seen Odysseus since the Trojan War, but invites anybody who has a story about him to come forward.

I wonder if that will be the framing device for the movie. We'll find out when The Odyssey voyages into movie theaters on July 17, 2026.

And if you want to watch a new trailer, consider enjoying the newly released teaser for the third season of Invasion, Apple's sci-fi drama:

Space aliens are on their way and it's gonna be a big pain for use. The new season starts up on August 22 on Apple TV+. Just keep stringing along shows and movies like that and it'll time to buy tickets for The Odyssey before you know it.
