Netflix has slowly been building its sci-fi catalog, and the streaming platform is about to add yet another underrated sci-fi series to its collection for viewers to enjoy!Â
This May, Netflix will become the streaming home to all three seasons of NBC’s sci-fi drama La Brea, which ran from 2021 to 2024. As first reported by What’s On Netflix, La Brea will be available to stream on Netflix in the U.S. beginning on Friday, May 1, 2026, marking the first time the series will be available to stream on Netflix stateside.Â
While the series hit select international markets in late 2024, La Brea was never available to U.S. viewers, but that will thankfully be changing soon. This is particularly exciting news for both fans who enjoyed the show during its initial run on NBC and those who have been wanting to watch, as it’ll make the show more widely available than ever before. At the moment, the only place where fans can stream the show is via Tubi and Peacock; however, Peacock is only home to the show's first two seasons.
La Brea features an incredible cast led by Eoin Macken, Natalie Zea, Jon Seda, Chike Okonkwo, Zyra Gorecki, Rohan Mirchandaney, Josh McKenzie, Jack Martin, Veronica St. Clair, and Nicholas Gonzalez. The series follows the aftermath of a giant sinkhole mysteriously opening up in Los Angeles, transporting several unsuspecting individuals into a primeval world. Those unlucky enough to be pulled through the sinkhole must band together to survive the world's prehistoric creatures and the hidden threats around every corner, while those back in the real world race to try to find a way to bring the trapped individuals back home.
At just 30 episodes across all three seasons, La Brea makes for a great mini-binge watch with just enough episodes to tell a compelling story that will pull you in and keep you coming back for more. The series was a hidden gem during its run on NBC, with many overlooking the series during its broadcast run. We expect that will change with the show hitting Netflix, as this will give the show the chance to reach an even larger audience.
And while the show was technically canceled after three seasons, NBC gave the show an abbreviated final season, which allowed the writers to wrap up the storylines of the show and craft an ending to the series. This means you can jump into the series without a fear that it'll end with unresolved storylines, as the show did get a planned series finale.
With all three seasons dropping in early May, La Brea is a perfect option for sci-fi fans looking for something new to enjoy this summer. This is a series that is certain to gain a lot of traction upon landing on Netflix, so don't sleep on this underrated sci-fi series when it arrives on May 1!
