Netflix has dropped a teaser trailer for the fifth and final season of Stranger Things, which will be all wrapped up by the end of the year. Watch below!
When last we left our small town heroes, they were watching as the dark Upside Down dimension spilled into the sleepy town of Hawkins, Indiana. Season 5 will jump forward in time by a couple months. In the trailer, we see that some things remain as they were. For instance, Max is still in a coma, put there by big bag Upside Down monster man Vecna. Lucas cries over her. However, later in the trailer, when the gang is hiding from a gang of roving Demodogs, Max appears to be better, or at least, she's out of her hospital bed and Lucas is cradling her in his arms. But maybe he and the gang carried her out because of the danger? It's hard to tell.
Obviously the trailer doesn't want to give anything away. We see Dustin visiting the grave of Eddie Munson, who died last season; that might disabuse fans who think Eddie will somehow come back, although I wouldn't count anything out in a wild sci-fi story like this. At one point we see Eleven wearing a wetsuit, suggesting she's about to be submerged in water so she can use her powers. The government looks like it's trying to keep a lid on the Upside Down leaking into our world, but I wouldn't count on that working. In the end it'll be up to folk like Mike, Will, Steve, Robin, Erica, Hopper, Joyce, Murray, Jonathan and Nancy, all of whom pop up in the teaser trailer. Saving the world is a group effort.
And of course Vecna makes an appearance. We also see a glimpse of a new character played by Terminator veteran Linda Hamilton, the latest and last in the show's long string of homages to '80s icons.
Netflix is releasing the final episodes in three chunks: some on Thanksgiving, some on Christmas Day, and the series finale on New Year's Eve. They know everyone wants to see how the story ends and are betting you're willing to ignore family gatherings and holiday obligations to do it. They're probably right.
