The other week, HBO dropped a teaser trailer for the second season of The Last of Us, its zombie apocalypse show based on the video games of the same name. This new season will adapt The Last of Us Part II, which was a hugely controversial game when it came out in 2020. A lot of that was due to a new character named Abby, who will be played by Kaitlyn Dever on the show:
The teaser trailer also revealed that the new season will premiere in April, but neglects to provide an exact release date. Using the amazing power of counting, we've deduced what we think is the premiere date: Sunday, April 13, 2025.
This isn't official, but also isn't hard to figure out. HBO tends to show new episodes of its premiere TV series on Sunday nights. The Last of Us season 2 is one of the biggest shows it will air this year, but it's not the only one. Another heavy hitter is The White Lotus, Mike White's razor-sharp dramedy about an international resort chain. The third season of The White Lotus will premiere on Sunday, February 16 and air for eight episodes. That means it'll end on Sunday, April 6. HBO will likely want to air something big the Sunday after to keep people coming back, and the season 2 premiere of The Last of Us is far and away the best candidate. Herego: The Last of Us season 2 will (probably) premiere on Sunday, April 13.
Again, this is a guess, although I think it's a good one. The only thing that gives me pause is that HBO didn't reveal this exact date in that teaser trailer above. If it's so easy to figure out, why wouldn't they just come out and say it?
Maybe HBO has something else planned, but I think this prediction will hold. We'll find out soon enough.
